What Is Microneedling?
If you’re looking for a non-surgical approach to skin rejuvenation, microneedling offers a clinically proven way to support healthier, more resilient skin. At Starr MedSpa, this minimally invasive treatment — also known as collagen induction therapy — uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This process stimulates the skin’s natural production of collagen and elastin, helping improve overall texture, tone, and firmness.
Microneedling can help soften the appearance of acne scars, enlarged pores, stretch marks, fine lines, and uneven skin texture. A series of treatments encourages gradual collagen renewal, with many patients noticing visible improvement after just a few sessions. The treatment can also be paired with targeted serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to further enhance results.
Safe for all skin types and requiring little to no downtime, microneedling offers a thoughtful, natural approach to supporting the skin’s long-term health and appearance. Schedule a consultation at Starr MedSpa to learn how this treatment can be customized to address your individual skin concerns and goals.
What Is Our Microneedling Technique?
Collagen induction therapy with microneedling is done in one of our office procedure rooms in around 60 minutes with local anesthesia or numbing cream if desired; however, patients typically experience mild or no discomfort. The areas of skin being treated will be cleaned before the microneedling handpiece is passed evenly over. Once the microneedling is done, a topical treatment, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), may be added to your treatment so the nutrients can penetrate deeper into the skin. A moisturizer selected for your skin type will be massaged in along with UV protection because your skin will be sensitive following the procedure.
Frequency of treatment: every 4 – 6 weeks

Am I a Candidate for Microneedling?
SkinPen microneedling can be an excellent choice for patients looking to refresh their complexion and stimulate collagen naturally without surgery or extensive downtime. Because microneedling works by triggering the skin’s healing response, candidacy depends on skin health, healing ability, and the type of concerns being treated. During your consultation, our team will evaluate your skin condition, sensitivity, medical history, and aesthetic goals to determine whether SkinPen treatment is appropriate for you. You may be a candidate for SkinPen microneedling if you:
- Are in good overall health
- Have mild to moderate skin concerns
- Want collagen-stimulating treatment
- Have acne scars or texture concerns
- Have fine lines or enlarged pores
- Can avoid sun exposure during healing
- Are not pregnant unless medically cleared
- Do not have active acne infections or inflammatory skin flare-ups
Patients with certain autoimmune skin conditions, open wounds, or impaired healing responses may need alternative skin rejuvenation options instead.

Microneedling FAQ
Is microneedling safe for everyone?
In general, microneedling is safe for all skin tones and types. Skin injuries created by microneedling are so minor there are very few side effects after the treatment. Microneedling can be performed on most areas of skin, including the arms, face, neck, chest, thighs, and calves. Microneedling isn't recommended if you've been on Accutane in the last few months, plus if you have an active skin infection, herpes simplex, or open wound. Additionally, you might not be able to get microneedling if you're pregnant, nursing, or undergoing radiation therapy.
Can I combine other treatments with microneedling?
During the microneedling process, channels are made that make it easier for treatments to penetrate the lower layers. That's why microneedling is commonly done with other treatments. During your initial consultation, our team can explain which treatments may be performed along with microneedling and which would most benefit your skin.
What exactly is microneedling?
Collagen induction therapy, or microneedling, is a minimally invasive procedure to rejuvenate your skin. A natural fibrous protein, collagen helps keep your skin smooth, supple, and firm. Over time, your collagen stores are depleted, and your skin becomes thin and loses elasticity. Microneedling causes tiny wounds in your skin. These micro-injuries cause your skin to increase its collagen production and generate new skin cell growth. After a short recovery period, your complexion appears healthier, firmer, and brighter.
